Whenever my husband and I dine at our favorite Japanese steakhouse, we order sake. It’s served warm in a small traditional pitcher with matching cups. Since we both enjoy sake and martinis, I thought we’d try making the saketini. We were both happy with the result.

Ingredients

With just three ingredients, this sake martini comes together in no time, making it easy for an impromptu gathering. Chilling the ingredients before mixing the cocktail will make it crisper.

  • Sake
  • Vodka – use your favorite brand.
  • Triple Sec – Feel free to use a non-alcoholic brand if you prefer. If you want to make a premium saketini, use Cointreau or Grand Marnier.

What to serve with Saketinis

Any Japanese or Asian inspired appetizers would be delicious with a saketini. Try crab rangoon, teriyaki chicken kabobs, shishito peppers, or potstickers in an air fryer.

Tips and Suggestions

  • When making a saketini, combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Give it a few good shakes until the mixture is sufficiently chilled.
  • Start with chilled ingredients. Chill the sake in the refrigerator and the vodka in the freezer. Don’t worry, it won’t freeze.
  • For an extra cold cocktail, chill the martini glasses.
  • This sake martini can be made with gin, but we prefer vodka. Since gin is very botanical by nature, it will overpower the drink. Vodka is a neutral grain spirit and will let the taste of the sake shine through.

How to Serve a Sake Martini

A saketini is perfect for any Asian inspired party or meal. Serve them for a holiday gathering, date night at home, happy hour at home, girls’ night, brunch, and cocktail parties.

More Vodka Martini Cocktails

There is a reason that vodka is so popular, and it’s that it easily mixes with a variety of things. A blueberry lemon martini, a dill pickle martini, or a cranberry lemon drop martini are all delicious. Serve this espresso martini, made with vodka and Bailey’s, as an after-dinner drink.

What is sake?

Sake is a Japanese alcoholic beverage. Often called “rice wine,” the process to make it is more similar to brewing beer.

Can I make a saketini without vodka?

Yes, but it gives it the real martini feel.
