What is a craft cocktail?

Craft cocktails are all about using the finest spirits and the best ingredients. Things like freshly squeezed juices, and homemade syrups. These fine ingredients elevate the taste of the cocktail.

What is simple syrup?

Simply, it’s when you boil equal parts of sugar and water until the sugar dissolves. You have to be careful not to boil the mixture or you will get close to the candy stage. While it’s typically just sugar and water you can make flavored simple syrups such as strawberry simple syrup, or raspberry simple syrup

What is the best way to garnish a raspberry martini?

A garnish is the finishing touch to a cocktail. I chose to skewer three fresh raspberries onto a cocktail pick and place it on the rim of the coupe glass. You could also place the fresh raspberry garnish into the glass but make sure it won’t slide into the glass. You don’t want your guests fishing it out.

For a fancier presentation, dip fresh raspberries in chocolate and skewer them. Rest the skewer on the rim of the glass.

If you don’t have fancy cocktail picks you can freeze a few berries and float them in the glass. This is also a great way to keep the cocktail cold.

Tips and Suggestions

For the elegance factor, I choose to serve this in a fancier coupe glass. If you don’t have coupe glasses, use traditional martini glasses. A rocks glass would work but a highball glass would be too big.

While you could skip making the raspberry simple syrup and use raspberry vodka but martini purists would prefer the clean taste of unflavored vodka. Flavored vodkas can sometimes taste off. I prefer the fresh fruit syrup component.

This raspberry vodka cocktail is a great addition to your summer cocktails menu along with a grapefruit gin fizz. You don’t want to serve cocktails using the same liquor. Mix it up.
